The method used for doing semi-permanent hair removal is known as Waxing. This is the method that removes the hair from rootcause. This will take at least 2 to 8 weeks to grow new hairs back in the previously waxed area. We can wax in almost any area of the body, which includes face, eyebrows, legs, bikini area, arms, feet, back and abdomen. We have many types waxing which is suitable for removing unwanted hair. We may achieve permanent hair reduction if we do waxing regularly.
By spreading a thin layer of wax combination over the skin we can accomplish waxing. And by pressing a strip of cloth or paper on the top of applied layer and ripping off with a quick movement against the direction of hair growth. This will remove the wax along with the hair. In opposition of strip wax another method that is used is hard wax. So in this method of hard wax, we need to apply wax somewhat thickly and with no cloth or paper strips. Then is allowed to cool down which hardens the wax and this will allow the therapist to remove the wax along with the hair without the aids of cloths. This is a very beneficiary method for the person having sensitive skin.
There are various types of waxing available, where few of them must be performed only by the licensed cosmetologists or esthetician. The different types of waxing which can be performed are:
Eyebrow waxing
Bikini, Male genital, & Hollywood/Brazilian waxing
Leg waxing
Arm/underarm waxing
Back waxing
Foot waxing
Chest waxing
Entire body wax
Most of the body parts can be waxed, but the parts that are not listed above are not given any special consideration. These are the areas where individuals should never even try to wax are inside ears, nose, eyelashes, eyes, palms of the hands and the soles of the feet. We should be concern about these areas as they are very sensitive skin which can be damaged very severely if waxed. And genitals and the nipples are the areas where only licensed professional should wax
The benefits of doing waxing versus other forms of hair removal are:
Waxing is a n effective method for removing large amount of hair at one time. And it is also an long lasting method. There will not be hair growth for 2 to 8 weeks in the areas where waxing is done. Whereas if we shave the hair or use any depilatory cream to remove the hair then the hair is removed at the surface rather removing from the root. Hence within a few days we can see the hair at the surface. And with these methods the hair tends to grow back in rough stubble. And whereas the areas which are waxed regularly over a long periods of time will often regrow the hair that is softer.
As we have many benefits of doing waxing mean while we have many drawbacks as well. It will be very painful when the strip is removed from the skin. And also though it is short painful, it can be very uncomfortable.
The other drawback of doing waxing is the expense. Usually the waxing is performed by licensed cosmetologists and hence the cost can be very high. There are waxing supplies that can be done by you, but it will be difficult to use on some areas by oneself on the body. And also the hair removal is not permanent. There is chance for the wax strip to disturb the hair follicles when it is removed against the direction of hair growth, causing the hair growth to be more noticeable and make other methods of hair removal more difficult. But fortunately this risk is negligible when waxing is done properly.
Other drawback of performing waxing is some people may experience ingrown hairs, red bumps and minor bleeding. This occurs when waxing areas has thick hairs and also especially when the follicles are strongest. And it is impossible to eliminate but ingrown hairs can be reduced by regularly exfoliating and also by applying an astringent or a solution of both astringent and oil say baby oil or azulene oil.
It is not advisable for the persons suffering from diabetes to do waxing and even some of the physicians do not recommend them. Also for the persons who have varicose veins or poor circulations as these people are more susceptible to infection.
The users who use Retin-A, Renova, Differin or Isotretinoin are not advised to have waxing performed as these medications will tend to weaken the skin and the tearing of the skin may occur when the wax is removed.
We should also not do waxing on the areas of skin affected by pimples, warts, moles or rashes or on the skin that is irritated or chapped or suffering from sunburn. And also never apply wax to broken skin, peeling or varicose veins.
The women’s tolerance to pain may vary at different points during the menstrual cycle. And women may experience greater sensitivity to pain during the week before menstruation and hence for this reason many estheticians who are well experienced recommend that women should schedule the waxing appointments for the week after the menstruation because the pain tolerance may be at its highest.
